Season 1: Religion & Work — April to June 2026

Over the last year we have run a reading group in Toronto to understand the background beliefs that have created the world we live in and see what it might take to find new ones.

So far we have read close to 40 seminal papers including Alan Turing, C. Thi Nguyen, Hannah Arendt and Charles Taylor.

In the second quarter of 2026 we are starting a research project to look at the relationship between Religion and Work.

We want to understand: What are our current ideas about work? Do these have anything to do with religion? If so, what? What is the relationship between our projects and faith? Can we treat our work religiously? Should we?

To investigate this we will read Weber, Smith (Sentiments not Wealth), Dōgen, Marx, Joel Mokyr, Frederick Douglass, Will Manidis and Nabeel Qureshi.

We have a very limited number of spots for new members — but if you are interested in taking up a serious reading project to understand what it might take to transform yourself and your society then we encourage you to leave your information below. We will reach out if a spot opens up.
